I'm not going to lie, the first night was rough.
We brought Hudson's bed down from our bedroom to the main level. His bed is a really nice, comfortable cushion from a sectional couch. My friends, Darlene and Rob, gave it to him and he loves it. It's about seven feet long and three feet wide. Hudson snoozed most of the evening once he came home, with occasional whines. I set up an air mattress next to his bed so that I could stay with him in case he needed to go out or get up.
Hudson whined and cried all night. He kept getting up (at least six times) and would stand there swaying back and forth. I had to get up as well and hang on to him to make sure he wouldn't fall. I eventually determined that he wanted to sleep on the air mattress with me. Air mattresses are very instable when stepped on, so they are not the best thing for a recent amputee to try to maneuver on. I wasn't a big fan of the idea, but it became clear that Hudson was determined to sleep on the air mattress.
Between the sling and his determination, we got him settled. He still whined through out the night, but the length and volume were decreased. He just wanted to cuddle with his mom. :) I was able to get about an hour of sleep after he moved to the air mattress before I had to get up for work. I would estimate that over all I got maybe 2-3 hours of sleep, grabbed in 15-20 minute snatches.
