Hudson is Home!

We picked Hudson up tonight at 5:30.  He walked out of the hospital under his own steam, though we held on to his sling just in case.  Hudson, being Hudson, did drag us off to meet a fellow patient at the hospital.  Even less than 24 hrs out from surgery, Hudson has to sniff other dog's butts.

He needs to wear the ecollar when he's left unattended, but we'll keep it off when one of us is with him.  Dr. Stubbs and all his surgical techs were very pleased with Hudson's progress.  He does very well so far on just one back leg.  They hadn't expected him to do so well, since giant breeds tend to have a harder time with amputation.  From the comments I've seen in the tripawds forums, Danes seem to do really well overall.  Saint Bernards seem to have a tough time.

I was surprised on seeing Hudson how much of what I thought was his leg was actually hip.  He appears to have a "stub" in the pictures, but his entire leg was removed, leaving behind only hip bone and muscle.  The surgical scar photos are not particularly gruesome, but if you'd prefer not to see, stop now.
